Joe Biden On Business & Income

Senator Biden has served as senator since 1973 when he was 30 years old, and has always reported a modest but comfortable income.

The Biden Family is definitely not among the filthy rich according to ten years of tax records released recently. Senator Biden and his wife Jill earned $319,853 in 2007.

The Biden’s most recent filing listed his Senate income of $161,708; Jill Biden earned $66,546 from her job teaching English at Delaware Technical and Community College.

Joe Biden has also earned income from royalties for his memoir, ‘Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics’.  It was released in 2007 and earned him $71,000. Biden has another source of income from a law course he teaches at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. But he’s not likely to get rich from this gig that pays just over $20,000.

In the tax return, the Biden’s listed the following:

    • $62,954 in itemized deductions, including $14,912 for state and local income taxes and $11,604 for real estate taxes;
    • A deduction of $38,712 in home mortgage interest;
    • A tax amount owing of $66,273;
    • A refund of $6,514( due to overpaid income taxes);
    • $99 in taxable interest;
    • $772 in taxes for a housekeeper.
